Dearest Lizeth,
What I have done to you is unforgivable, but I am not sorry. Maybe someday you will understand why I had no choice.
I hate these dreadful powers. I’d give them up in a heartbeat if I could, but I cannot, nor can I fully detest them—not anymore if, as I intended, my powers have saved your life.
There are issues of free will, I know, and I am certainly not unaware of or insensitive to them. But if your will is to put your life in danger, I cannot stand by and let it happen. I would bewitch your mind a thousand times to rob it of every self-destructive notion. Please know that under no other circumstance would I use my power to control you. None. Only this—to save you.
I pray that in time you will understand my motivation: your well-being is my own, and your happiness is my own, because you and I are one, joined in heart and in soul. Perhaps with understanding will come the forgiveness that I don’t believe I deserve, but hope for wholeheartedly.
I haven’t just loved you for weeks, Lizeth. This isn’t a realization I have just come to, as we have recently become better acquainted. I have loved you, fully, intensely, and completely, since the moment you appeared in my dream. I had thought you a specter and then you materialized before me, in real life! It seemed nothing short of a miracle! When we locked eyes that first day, I vowed that I would move heaven and earth to be with you. My love has only grown since then. It is a permanent part of me now, as integral to my life as the breath in my lungs. I am sure you believed my affection to be a trifle crush. Now you know the truth.
I admit that perhaps my love for you is terrible, for I have done the unspeakable in the name of it. I know it is ethically wrong. But for love, for you, it is right.
All my love, always,
August
News & Other WIPs
I’m a little thin on news this month. “Big Wild World” is in its last revisions and I’ll soon be sending it–and some other things–out on a round of submissions. This mini will be one of them, the one I sent you last month, and a longer piece that is a bit experimental. More on that in a second.
The most exciting thing happening is that I have officially begun writing the sixth book in The Frontenac Sisters: Supernatural Sleuths & Monster Hunters series, which is titled The Only Constant. This short is inspired by that book, which I am very excited about. It’s a fantasy, it has some time travel in it and, clearly, romance. If you’ve read the series, then you know exactly who Lizeth and August are.
The experimental piece I hinted at a second ago is also inspired by the Only Constant, and I might send it your way so you can peek at it and tell me what you think. Time travel in this book is managed by a bureaucratic agency called the Inter Timeline Travel Bureau, and I’ve created a pamphlet put out by that agency which details the ins and outs of time travel for those who’ve accidentally done so. The piece (and, thus, the pamphlet) is called “Oh, No! You’ve Accidentally Traveled Through Time! How to Navigate Your New Reality: A Question & Answer Guide from the Inter-Timeline Travel Bureau.” It’s about 98% done; if you’d like to give it a read, let me know, and I’ll send it to you guys next month. I think it’s pretty fun, but it’s weird.
