Ubbie,
I hope this reaches you. There’s some network, they tell me, that moves letters for people ‘cause the Weeds don’t understand our language. Power and cell service has been out here for weeks. Maybe the same is true out where you are. If it isn’t, it will be soon.
The Weeds have taken over here, but they move slowly, so you have time to get out. You should know they take people. I don’t know where. They took Cal, Derek, and Mona. I’m so sorry about her. Those guys haven’t come back, but they took Josh Hunter—remember him from school? The guy who got his tongue pierced at the fair—he came back, and something’s wrong with him. He doesn’t talk. Nobody knows know why. Someone said they want to research us, or experiment on us, but I don’t know why he said that, if he saw something, or it’s just a rumor. That could explain a lot of what’s been happening. They hate us, that’s for sure. Maybe I don’t understand the noises they make, but I know hate when I see it. They’re curious, too, but in a way that gives you goosebumps.
I wish I could explain more, give you more answers, and I have only so much paper and a few other people to warn. The Weeds seem to need light and lots of rain. I’m fairly certain of that. Move to the desert or underground, I think that should be safe. We’re making plans to do that ourselves, but our chance might’ve passed. We’ll see.
Take care of yourself, man. I wish I could see you again. Probably not, the way things are going. Remember those nights, smoking pot at the top of the water tower, when we were kids? I think of those days a lot. We didn’t know what we had, did we?
God be with you,

News & Other WIPs
My story, “What You Wish For,” is officially out into the world via “The Colored Lens,” a speculative fiction literary magazine, which is available on Amazon. I’ve read a couple of the other stories in this collection–and will read more–and they’re very good. It’s in both print and eBook.

So, another perk of being on this list is that you guys can act as first readers of new short stories, before I send them out for publication. You can just enjoy them or give me some constructive feedback. This time, I’d like to share a story called “Big Wild World” with you, about a pampered house cat who finds herself far from home and indulging her most violent fantasies.
Again, if you’d like to tell me what you think, please don’t hesitate!
